Ten tips on how to increase your mental energy

Hi guys,

I hope you are well and healthy in these uncertain times. Take care of yourself and your family. Be grateful for what you have. Be cheerful and kind to people around. We all need a better life, and we must fight for it. It is so easy to be on autopilot, but this is not how we grow. Our awareness must be sharp to see those things that need our attention. Change yourself, be the person you always wanted to be. Your future self will thank you for this. Go, go, go !!!

These days our psyche is overwhelmed with so much information and tasks. All-day, you receive phones, emails, texts, social media notifications, and so on. Technology has evolved so much. But most of the time, this evolution is working against us. This is due that in this information chaos, we forget to be aware of ourselves. We go where we are told to go through all these communication channels.

Imagine that you are home after a long and demanding day. You take your phone, as usual, to stay a little on it. So you look at some emails, then some social media, and you begin to follow where the applications are taking you. After a while, you look at your watch, and three hours have passed so fast, not knowing what you have done. If you do this daily, you can lose your life in this maze of worthless information. I'm not saying that you must never do this, but I’m saying that you must not make this a habit. Be aware of your life, and you will do amazing things that you never thought are possible.

Coming back to the overwhelming data that we receive every day, I want to remind you that your mind is under constant pressure. It needs your urgent attention. Because we use so much our brain, our mental energy is draining. So each day, we need to focus on recovery. This is why, in today’s post, I speak about our so precious mental energy. Here are my ten tips for mental strength.

1. Meditation

I’ve heard about the benefits of meditation long ago. I have read about it, and I have tried on some occasions. But it never turned into a habit of how recently happened. One day I have bought an app on my iPhone. And this changed the way I looked at meditation. I learned so many new things that enriched my life. This app is called Calm, and I want to thank Tamara Levitt and Jeff Warren for the incredible job they do. Now I can say that meditation is my silver bullet to recover or get calm during the day. Try the programs from this app, and you will immerse yourself in this new way of seeing the world. If meditation isn’t your thing, a short nap of thirty minutes will do a good job.

2. Avoid multitasking

All my life, I have juggled with the daily tasks to be more productive. I believed that working in parallel with so many things at the same time will increase my efficiency. But in time, I have become dizzy acting like this. It was time to change myself, to be more focused, and do one action at a time.

It is not easy to avoid multitasking because, somehow, life is putting us under a constant test. But don’t give up and go forward like this. I can say from my own experience that being more focused has given me more serenity. So try it, maybe it works for you too. Recently I have read a fascinating quote on productivity, which I find so powerful.

The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule but to schedule your priorities.

— Stephen Covey

3. Breaks

Imagine that you are working on a big and important project. You are doing it for some hours with no stop. Your whole mind and body tell you to take a break, but you continue thinking how far you will advance in this way. But this is false; the only place you will go in the long term is burnout.

Brakes are like air for the body. They are essential for your physique and especially for your mind. Staying too long in a specific position will affect your spine. Also, putting constant pressure too long on your mind will decrease your energy. Then your work will be done harder and not so useful. Be aware of your brakes.

For instance, now I am listening to some ambient music, and I know that I need to break when it is finished. Listen to your body, to your soul. They will tell you when to stop. Do this, and you will advance more all your life's areas.

When you do, the brake is so essential to do something that calms you. Sometimes the way we try to find relaxation doesn’t recharge and can even drain our battery further.

4. Do what you like

When possible, do something you like. It will give you so much positive energy. In our days, we are so connected with the things that need to be done that we forget about ourselves. This is very wrong because we need to live. We must not be slaves to so many unimportant things that we foolishly believe are urgent or necessary. End these thoughts and do what your soul is desiring, enjoy life. After all, we are human beings, and we need to feel pleasure, connection, health, and love. Love yourself, be your best friend.

You owe yourself the love that you so freely give to other people.

— Alexandra Elle

5. Health

Our well being is so important, and we usually neglect it until the point of destruction. Maybe I am too hard saying this, but I saw so many examples in my life and others that made me think more about it. Our health is the fuel of our life. We can’t do anything without it. So take care of yourself, you need this. There are enough other problems already. Your body is your temple, your mind is your sky, and your soul is the sun.

Basically, there isn’t so complicated to be healthy. Sleep well, make sports, take care of your nutrition, and stay hydrated. Listen to your body and give it what it needs. I know that some of us have diseases from birth or hereditary. It is not easy or sometimes impossible to be totally healthy. But take care not to be even worse. Taking care of yourself could be one of the best decisions of your existence. Think about this for a while. Remember how you feel when you are ill. Everything fades at that moment.

6. Schedule your day

Sometimes we start the day not knowing what to do. So we plunge in whatever appears, and we go like this all day. Is nothing wrong with that, but this will not help us achieve the goals we want in the long term. This unplanned schedule makes a lot of place for anxiety because nothing is in control. We have no still ground. This will drain your energy.

Planning and scheduling the day before us is a good thing. It gives you certainty, focus, and calmness. We know what it will be and what is to be done. You choose what to do, not the randomness of life. Of course, some unexpected things can come up and mess up your planning. Don’t worry, this is normal, and you must adapt. Don’t be rigid; it will make it worse. Keep in mind that time will come for the planned things too.

Recently I’ve found out that our subconscious is worried about the things we postpone. This is interesting because you could think that the things you let for later are forgotten. But actually, you worry your subconscious. To escape this trap, you need to start solving the things that you postponed for so long. Also, plan what must be done on one particular day and put reminders for it. Your subconscious will thank you later.

7. Cope better with stress

Stress is always an actual topic in our days, and it will remain forever with us. We need to accept it as part of our lives. Don’t try to push it away because it will grow stronger. The most important thing is that we need to realize that we give the power to it. Often, we are stressed about small items with no importance. This is because, in our imagination, they need to be solved urgently. Nothing is so urgent, nothing is so important as we think. We give them power and importance to the things most of the time. So be aware of what you are doing and what you are thinking.

We have little power to choose what happens, but we have complete power on how we respond.

— Arianna Huffington

8. Focus on what is in your control

This advice looks simple, but it is so powerful. If we live our lives thinking about things out of our control, we will simply be very frustrated. We need to focus on what we can do and just do it.

I have a short example of this. Every day you go to work, and the traffic is terrible. So every day, you get frustrated and get mad about it. This is wrong, and you hurt yourself every time. Your energy will be on a low level just before you arrive to work. Traffic will always be there. Accept it and move on to the things that you can change.

9. Stay positive

There is always a positive side to any story. Try always to see this even sometimes it seems impossible. It is so easy to focus on the unpleasant things. Protect your mind and fill it with good thoughts. It will make you feel better.

The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.

— Winston Churchill

10. Be grateful

I can’t stop remind everybody and myself how important it is to see your blessings. We live our lives, and we take some everyday things we have and feel for granted. But it is not so. There are so many bad things in the world. There are places where children starve, where families have no home. There are wars in which people die. We forgot to think about that, and we see just the things that we don’t have. Hey, wake up and be grateful for the things that you do have. Other people are only dreaming at your blessings. Don’t wait until something terrible happen to you to realize how lucky you are.

These are my ten tips on how to increase our mental energy. I hope this supports you and makes a difference in your life. I know without a doubt that mental strength is one of the most important things we need in life. I say this from my own experience, and I admit that I am still struggling with that. But I won't give up!

Until next time, stay safe and be positive. Everything will turn out well in one way or another. And don’t forget to raise your life!
